L.A. County Fair
It’s that time of year again - when families pack up and head out to the fair. This year, I had the priviledge of visiting the annual Los Angeles County Fair. A plethora of food can be found here from just about anything fried, to bbq, and turkey legs. Here’s a few of things we tried when we were there…
First stop was the chocolate covered bacon - yes, it is EXACTLY what it sounds like. A strip of bacon, covered in chocolate and chilled to keep the chocolate in a solid form in the 95+ degree temperatures. Luckily, it doesn’t taste like what it looks like, and instead reminded me a bit of a snickers bar… sweet and then salty. We weren’t huge fans of it, but most definitely had to try it.
Next up was the fried oreos. These were definitely a pleasant surprise. The cookie itself was almost melted and the cream had absorbed into it. It was like eating a wonderful lava cake in batter - probably the favorite of the day.
Next up was the fried twinkie. What has come to be a fair staple, it was as expected - like eating a donut that was richer, creamier, and still a little bit spongy.
After all those fried foods, it was a little hard to eat any other sweets - we were already on sugar overload. But to be sure, there were plenty others to try next year!
