Xooro - the best churro?
Fairly non-descript, and located in Santa Monica, Xooro opened up without much fanfare. Walking into the barren space that is more reminiscent of a hospital waiting room than a boutique dessert parlor, you’re welcomed with the smell of fresh cinnamon and sugar. Inside, you’ll find a variety of “spanish fritters”, aka churros, waiting to be baked and consumed. But is it any good?
The answer is most definitely yes. While falling into the higher end of desserts as most places are these days, the price of one stick here ranges anywhere from $3.95 to upwards of $5.00 each. But it is with each deliciously light bite that you realize that you’ve never quite had a churro so good, at a fair, amusement park of anywhere else.
The original consists of a fairly standard cinnamon and sugar covered churro, with choice of filling (vanilla, chocolate, nutella, etc). The more extreme include their dolce du leche with goat’s milk, and the ever increasingly popular Jordan’s Special which is filled with nutella and covered in white and dark chocolate stripes. When eaten fresh, each is warm and crispy with hints of the cream inside, and not too heavy for a sweet snack whenever you’re craving some sugar.
Xooro also offers standard coffee drinks, and even Mexican hot chocolate (yum!). Do I recommend a try? Most definitely - if you’re ever in the area, grab a fritter from Xooro and you’ll be smiling as you walk out the door. Just don’t stay too long or you may start to go crazy looking at the white walls.
